The City of Geneva announced on Apr. 16 that it has begun the planning process for the Geneva 2040 Comprehensive Plan and is inviting residents to participate in shaping the city’s future.
A comprehensive plan helps guide a community’s long-term development by setting a vision and priorities on topics such as housing, transportation, economic development, and land use. The city said this document will help elected officials, staff, and residents make informed decisions over the next decade while preserving what makes Geneva unique.
Community involvement is described as central to this process. The first major opportunity for public engagement will be at the “Geneva Conversations” event scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 at the Geneva High School cafeteria located at 416 McKinley Ave. The city said participants will hear an overview of the project before joining small-group discussions focused on areas like housing, economic growth, and sustainability.
For those unable to attend in person, additional opportunities for feedback are planned throughout the year so more voices can be heard during different stages of development. According to city officials, work began earlier this month with stakeholder interviews conducted by a consulting firm.
The last time Geneva updated its comprehensive plan was in 2003. Adoption of the new plan by City Council is expected in early 2027. More information about ongoing events and how residents can get involved is available through the official Geneva 2040 website.
Broader participation in these efforts may influence policies affecting neighborhoods across Geneva for years ahead.
