A 47-year-old Geneva man died in a single-vehicle crash in the 1300 block of Crissey Avenue in Geneva on May 28 at approximately 10 p.m., according to a May 29 announcement from the City of Geneva.

Geneva Police, Batavia Police, and Geneva Fire Department personnel responded to the scene after Tri-Com Central Dispatch received an Apple iPhone Crash Detection notification at 9:59 p.m. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 Jeep Renegade traveling north on Crissey Avenue veered off the roadway and struck a tree on the east side of Crissey Avenue.

The driver was identified as Joseph C. Fisher III of Geneva. Fisher was extricated from the vehicle and transported by Geneva Fire Department personnel to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 10:43 p.m. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Geneva Police and the Kane County Coroner’s Office worked together to investigate the scene. Authorities said there was no indication of impairment at the scene, but details remain under investigation. A portion of Crissey Avenue was closed for three hours while law enforcement and fire department personnel worked at the site.

The Batavia Police Department provided traffic assistance during the closure, and Geneva Public Works assisted with debris removal to re-open the road.
