Illinois Wesleyan University senior pitcher Gianna Certa was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season, according to an April 27 announcement. This marks the eighth weekly award of her career.
Certa earned the honor after leading Illinois Wesleyan to its fourth consecutive conference regular season title with two complete game shutouts over Carroll and Carthage on April 25 and 26. In these games, she allowed just six hits across 12 innings and struck out a total of 21 batters. She began with a five-inning no-hitter against Carroll, striking out the first eight batters she faced, and finished by striking out all three in the fifth inning as Illinois Wesleyan secured an 8-0 win. The following day, needing a victory to clinch the regular season championship outright, Certa pitched another shutout against Carthage, scattering six hits in a close 1-0 win while striking out ten without issuing any walks.
With these performances, Certa improved her season record to 10-2 overall and remained undefeated at 8-0 in conference play. Over her career, she has compiled a perfect record of 23-0 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular season games.
