The Highwood American Legion Post #501 will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony on May 24 at City Hall, according to a statement released on May 19. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM at 17 Highwood Ave.

The ceremony aims to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. Community members are invited to attend and pay their respects.

Following the ceremony, attendees are welcome to visit a special display presented by the Highwood Historical Society. This exhibit features photographs honoring fallen Highwood veterans who lost their lives in the line of duty. The display will be set up in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, where light refreshments will also be served.

Organizers say that such commemorations provide an opportunity for residents to reflect on local history and recognize those who have served their country. The inclusion of historical photographs aims to connect current generations with stories from the community’s past.

The event concludes with an invitation for attendees to view the memorial display and share in refreshments, fostering community connection while remembering those honored.
