The Illinois Department of Transportation has released a new highway map to ensure easy movement for travelers around the state, according to a press release.

“It’s time to update your maps,” Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn said, according to the press release. “These maps are great to keep on hand while traveling throughout our state and are a helpful resource in emergency situations.”

Of particular interest is the availability of Quick Response (QR) codes, which can be scanned by smart phones and provide relevant and timely information on everything from Amtrak travel and Chicago and St. Louis traffic to alternative fuels and travel tips.

Travelers can get free copies of the 2017-2018 official highway map at interstate rest areas and the IDOT tent during the Illinois State Fair on Aug. 10-20.
