The Illinois Department of Transportation resumed construction on the north side of 55th Street in Western Springs on April 29, with contractors reinstalling a modified work zone to complete remaining tasks. The current phase includes a westbound single right lane closure from Plainfield to Laurel, and between Laurel and Wolf, one lane will be open in each direction on the south side of 55th Street to allow for storm sewer, curb, and gutter work. Once this is finished, a single westbound lane closure will remain through the work zone as crews continue with projects on the north side.

IDOT expects this stage of construction to finish by mid-summer. Afterward, patching and resurfacing are scheduled before landscaping takes place in the fall. Updates about these activities have also been posted on the IDOT 55th Street Improvement Project page.
