The University of Illinois men’s and women’s track and field teams achieved seven new top-10 program marks during the final day of the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on April 18. The meet took place in Gainesville, Florida, where several athletes improved their standings in school history.
These results highlight the ongoing progress of the Illini track and field program, which competes in both indoor and outdoor events according to the official website. The team is part of the Big Ten Conference and participates at the NCAA Division I level according to the official website.
Mia Morello recorded a pole vault mark of 4.50 meters (14-9), earning second place at the event. This performance now stands as both her personal best and as the fifth highest mark nationally this season. Grace Kombetto finished tenth in the 800 meters with a time that ranks third fastest in school history, while Jackson Gilbert posted a time of 45.47 seconds for eighth place in the 400 meters—the fourth fastest ever for Illinois.
Two triple jumpers also entered new territory: Katharina Graman’s sixth-place leap was fourth best all-time for Illinois, while Romi Tamir’s eighth-place finish ranked sixth best for the program. Reece Ihenacho improved his discus throw to become ninth all-time at Illinois with a distance of 55.65 meters (182-7). Sophia Beckmon placed second in her event with an 11.45-second run, now ninth fastest for Illinois.
