The Illinois Accountability Commission (IAC) has introduced a new process for individuals to submit information regarding alleged misconduct by federal agents during Operation Midway Blitz. This initiative allows people who have witnessed or experienced such incidents to provide video or written accounts directly to the Commission, even if they are unable to attend hearings in person.

Governor JB Pritzker commented on the development, stating, “As the Trump Administration continues its attacks on immigrant communities and peaceful protesters, Illinois refuses to let these egregious abuses of power by ICE and CBP go unchecked. With the launch of IAC’s submission portal, I urge Illinoisans affected by potential misconduct to help expose the federal government’s lies about Operation Midway Blitz. Here in Illinois, we follow the law. We’ll collect photos, videos, and other information from our communities as we seek justice and call for Donald Trump, Kristi Noem, and Gregory Bovino to be held accountable.”

Operation Midway Blitz involved actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents that reportedly led to numerous arrests without warrants and use of chemical irritants against protesters and bystanders.

RubĂ©n Castillo, Chair of the Illinois Accountability Commission, said: “Our deliberate approach seeks to mitigate the negative impact on those who seek to share information and to build a record that withstands any attempt to erase or minimize what has occurred here. This pilot process advances our larger strategic goal, which is establishing an undeniable, permanent record of accountability that transcends changing administrations and creating consequences for those who violate law. We appreciate the public’s patience during these difficult times.”

Individuals can submit their experiences through an interest form available at ilac.illinois.gov/interest-form. The Commission expects to follow up with respondents within five to seven business days. Submissions may be subject to disclosure under state transparency laws such as the Illinois Freedom of Information Act; more details are available in the State of Illinois Privacy Notice at illinois.gov/about/privacy.

The IAC was established by Executive Order as an independent body tasked with reviewing federal law enforcement operations in Illinois. It will hold public hearings and issue both interim and final reports with recommendations for accountability and reform.

For updates on upcoming hearings or opportunities for public comment, individuals can visit the Commission Updates page on the IAC website.
