The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Apr. 30 the induction of eight new members into its Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026. The class includes Ayo Dosunmu, Jordyn Poulter, D.A. Points, Howard Griffith, Brandon Lloyd, Ella Masar, James Augustine and Tauja Catchings.
This announcement highlights the achievements and contributions these athletes have made to the university’s athletic history. Their recognition comes as part of the Hall’s tenth anniversary celebration.
“The Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026 is another reminder of the many storied athletes who have represented the Fighting Illini,” said Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman. “One of the most rewarding aspects of my position is calling the new class members each year and hearing the excitement in their voices as they learn of this incredible honor. We look forward to hosting each of these great Illini and their families this fall during the induction weekend as we celebrate the 10th class for our Hall of Fame.”
Among those honored is Ella Masar, a former soccer standout who ranks sixth in career goals for Illinois with 27 goals and fifth in all-time points with 74 after tallying both goals and assists during her time with the team. She was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in 2006 and earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors in both 2006 and 2007 before playing professionally until her retirement in 2019.
The University’s women’s soccer team competes at NCAA Division I level as a member institution within both University athletics and Big Ten Conference structures according to its official website. The team operates from Champaign, Illinois according to its official website.
Other inductees include athletes from basketball, football, golf, volleyball and women’s basketball who achieved significant collegiate records or went on to successful professional careers or Olympic participation.
A formal gala will be held on Sept. 11 at State Farm Center where all past classes will also be recognized alongside this year’s honorees. Returning members will also be acknowledged at a home football game against Duke on Sept.12.
Since beginning in 2017, there are now a total of 162 individuals inducted into the Illinois Athletics Hall Of Fame representing every current varsity sport sponsored by University athletics.
