Certain taxing jurisdictions in Illinois will change local sales tax rates on aviation fuel effective July 1, 2026, according to a May 27 announcement. Businesses selling aviation fuel are required to update their cash registers and computer systems by that date to ensure the correct amount of tax is collected and paid.

To confirm the new applicable tax rates for aviation fuel sales, businesses can use the MyTax Illinois Tax Rate Finder at mytax.illinois.gov and select rates for July 2026. Additional details are available in Informational Bulletin FY 2026-27, Summary of Sales Tax Rate Changes for Aviation Fuel, Effective July 1, 2026.

The state periodically updates local sales tax rates as part of its ongoing fiscal management practices. These adjustments may affect retailers and purchasers in impacted jurisdictions by changing the total cost of aviation fuel transactions.

Businesses are advised to review all official resources provided by state authorities to ensure compliance with updated regulations.
