The Illinois College women’s track and field team achieved four top-five finishes at the Augustana Meet of Champions, which concluded on April 18 at the Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex in Rock Island, Illinois.
The event highlighted strong performances by several athletes from Illinois College. Aleese Trimingham won the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.36 seconds, marking the fastest recorded time in the Midwest Conference this season. Keyleigh Thomas finished second in the javelin with a throw of 39.70 meters, also setting a conference-leading mark for the year.
Deja Anderson placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.30 meters. The relay team composed of McKenzie Murray, Haley Garrett, Fynesse Jones, and Anderson secured third place in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 49.35 seconds.
In other results from individual sprints, Jones and Murray placed seventh and eighth respectively in the 100 meters, finishing just one hundredth of a second apart.
Illinois College Lady Blues Track and Field aims to deliver student-athletes opportunities for competition, growth, and scholarly achievement, according to the official website. The program operates as part of NCAA Division III within the Midwest Conference according to its official site.
Looking ahead, some members of the Lady Blues will compete at Monmouth’s Thursday Night Special while others are set to participate in Des Moines at the annual Drake Relays.
