Illinois College Lady Blues softball sweeps Eureka with two shutouts at home

The Illinois College Lady Blues softball team recorded two shutout victories against Eureka in a doubleheader on Apr. 22 at Jessica Kamp Softball Field in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Lady Blues won the first game 8-0 and secured a second win with a score of 5-0.

These wins mark the final non-conference games of the regular season for Illinois College, which now holds an overall record of 24-10. According to the official website, Illinois College Lady Blues Softball competes in NCAA Division III softball and is part of the Midwest Conference according to the official website.

In Game 1, both teams remained scoreless until Illinois College broke through with five runs in the fifth inning. Key plays included Gabby Miller stealing third base and scoring on an error, Alivia Darbe hitting a solo home run, Shelby Seiler delivering an RBI triple, Brooke Loveall contributing an RBI single, and Ezzy Mauermann adding an RBI double. The Lady Blues added three more runs in the sixth inning to end the game early by run rule. Pitcher Jordan Closs allowed only one hit over five innings with five strikeouts for her eleventh win of the season. Christine Myers closed out the game by retiring all three batters she faced.

Game 2 saw Illinois College take an early lead when Kendall Cole singled home Miller in the first inning. Additional runs came from Maddie Adams’ RBI single and hits by Megan Doolittle and Halie Williams during a three-run sixth inning. Cambria Currie pitched five innings for the win while Avery Fritz earned her first save of the year over two innings.

Jessica Kamp Softball Field serves as home for Illinois College Lady Blues Softball and features a resurfaced infield designed to improve drainage and minimize weather-related issues according to information from their official site. The program operates out of Jacksonville, Illinois as noted on its athletics page.

The team will return home Saturday for its final regular-season games against Knox in another Midwest Conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m., with Senior Class recognition scheduled before play begins.
