The Illinois College Lady Blues softball team won the Midwest Conference Regular Season Championship with a sweep of Grinnell on April 26 at the Grinnell Softball Complex.
This achievement means Illinois College will host the Midwest Conference Tournament on May 8-9 at Jessica Kamp Field. The Lady Blues now have an overall record of 28-10 and a conference record of 13-1, while Grinnell stands at 8-28 and 3-9.
In the first game, Illinois College secured a narrow victory, winning 6-5 in a contest that saw both teams exchange leads. Maddie Adams recorded a sacrifice fly for the opening run, while Bella Thien hit a two-run double and Ezzy Mauermann added an RBI single. Shelby Seiler drove in the eventual game-winning run in the seventh inning. Avery Fritz earned the win in relief, pitching over four innings with three strikeouts.
The second game ended with an 8-0 win for Illinois College after eight runs were scored in the fourth inning. Cambria Currie pitched a five-inning no-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts, while Seiler led offensively with three hits. This marks Illinois College’s school-record twenty-eighth win; previous records stood at twenty-five wins by four different teams.
Illinois College Lady Blues Softball competes as part of NCAA Division III according to the official website.
