The Illinois College women’s track and field team won five event titles at the Fighting Scot Outdoor Invitational held on May 2 at April Zorn Memorial Stadium in Monmouth, Illinois.
This achievement highlights the team’s performance as they prepare to defend their outdoor conference title. The victories include standout performances by Haley Garrett, who claimed first place in both the 100 meters with a time of 12.19 seconds and the 200 meters with a time of 22.57 seconds. Garrett’s result in the 100 meters is noted as the fastest this season in the Midwest Conference. Aleese Trimingham also secured two wins, taking first place in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.91 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.82). Riley Gardner won the high jump with a clearance of 1.71 meters, which ranks as the sixth-best jump nationally.
Other notable results for Illinois College included McKenzie Murray finishing second in the 200 meters (25.70 seconds) and third in the 400 meters (1:01.90), while Deja Anderson took third place in the 200 meters (25.97 seconds). Kami Rhoades placed second behind Murray in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.44.
In field events, Natalie Hastings earned second-place finishes in both hammer throw (39.12 meters) and discus (45.10 meters). Keyleigh Thomas was runner-up in javelin with a mark of 39.55 meters, while Delanie Teno and Ellie Bartling finished third and fourth respectively in shot put; Teno also placed fifth overall in hammer throw.
Illinois College Lady Blues Track and Field aims to deliver student-athletes opportunities for competition, growth, and scholarly achievement, according to the official website. The program competes within NCAA Division III as part of the Midwest Conference according to its official website.
The Lady Blues will next compete at Mt. Vernon, Iowa during Friday and Saturday’s annual Midwest Conference Championships.
