The Illinois College men’s tennis team recorded several victories on April 25 during the annual Midwest Conference Individual Tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
The event is important for student-athletes as it provides opportunities to compete individually and gain experience in postseason play. The Blueboys, representing Illinois College, participate in NCAA Division III and the Midwest Conference, according to the official website.
In singles matches, Adi Basic lost his opening round but will move forward to the consolation final due to a bye. Jeff Wernsing won his first match after three sets (6-4, 6-7, 6-2) before being defeated in the semifinals. Tejas Zala secured a strong victory with a score of 6-1, 6-0 before exiting in the semifinal round. Glenn Conway achieved a shutout win (6-0, 6-0) but also fell in his semifinal match. Andrus Dupre and Grayson Dupre both lost their initial matches but received byes into their respective consolation finals.
In doubles play, Conway paired with Dalton Short at No. 2 and Zala teamed up with Andrus Dupre at No. 3 for opening round wins.
Illinois College Blue Boys Tennis uses the Bellatti Tennis Complex for its home matches and operates as a collegiate athletics program based out of Jacksonville, Illinois according to the official website. The program supports student-athlete participation and encourages team spirit through varsity sports opportunities according to its mission statement.
The individual portion of this year’s Midwest Conference Tournament will conclude tomorrow in Madison.
