Illinois College men’s track and field team secures four titles at Monmouth meet

The Illinois College men’s track and field team claimed four individual championships in the field events at the Thursday Twilight Special held at April Zorn Memorial Stadium, according to an announcement on Apr. 23.

This performance is significant as it highlights the achievements of student-athletes balancing academics and athletics while competing at a high level. The victories reflect both individual accomplishments and strong team spirit within the program.

Melvin Hodge led the Blueboys by setting a school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 60.60 meters, which also ranks as the third-best mark nationally this season. Deon Rodgers broke another school record by winning the discus with a throw of 50.47 meters. Jaden Saunders took first place in the long jump with a leap of 6.97 meters, while Jacob Kollman won the triple jump after reaching 14.11 meters.

Rodgers also placed third in hammer throw (49.05 meters), Ben Replogle was third in javelin (51.59 meters), Kollman finished second (6.84 meters) and Replogle third (6.64 meters) in long jump, while Dylan Humphrey (12.78 meters) and Austin Missey (12.45 meters) were second and third respectively in triple jump competition. Saul Hernandez secured fourth place in shot put with a mark of 14.71 meters.

On the track, Jamie Hendrix finished second in the 400-meter hurdles clocking 59.37 seconds; Jacob Anderson was fourth at 1:03:28; Robby Biesenthal took second place in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:26:2; Jack Rogers came third at 4:34:25; Zac Howard rounded out top five finishes for IC on track events by placing fifth in the 800-meter race finishing at 2:08:34.

Illinois College Blue Boys Men’s Track and Field supports student-athletes striving for success both academically and athletically while fostering teamwork according to its official athletics website. The program competes under NCAA Division III guidelines within the Midwest Athletic Conference according to its official site.

Looking ahead, Illinois College will send athletes to compete at this year’s Drake Relays scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
