Illinois College announced on May 10 that five members of its softball team have been named to the All-Midwest Conference postseason honors teams.
The recognition highlights the achievements of student-athletes from Illinois College Lady Blues Softball, which competes in NCAA Division III and is a member of the Midwest Conference, according to the official website.
Jordan Closs led the group of honorees. The senior from Niantic, Illinois was named Pitcher of the Year for the league and earned first-team All-Conference status for a second consecutive season. Closs has a record of 15-4 with a 1.67 earned run average and has recorded 102 strikeouts in 125 and two-thirds innings.
Other first-team selections included centerfielder Ezzy Mauermann, utility player Gabby Miller, and at-large recipient Cambria Currie. Mauermann leads Illinois College with a .408 batting average and eight home runs, along with driving in 28 runs. Miller holds a .350 average with a team-high 29 stolen bases. Currie is second on the team at .397 with 12 runs batted in; as a pitcher she is also 9-4 with a 2.29 ERA and has registered 58 strikeouts.
Junior infielder Maddie Adams was named to the second team after posting a .367 batting average, nine doubles (the most on her team), and collecting fifteen stolen bases this season.
The Lady Blues won both the Midwest Conference regular season title and tournament championship this year. They are set to participate in next weekend’s NCAA Division III Tournament.
