Illinois softball earned a 6-3 victory over Valparaiso in its last home game of the season on Apr. 29, according to a team announcement. The Fighting Illini improved their record to 15-36 overall and 3-17 in Big Ten play with this win.
The result marks the end of Illinois’ home schedule for the year, highlighting performances from Abby Sabalaskey, who pitched six innings and allowed only two runs on four hits. Ellie Haggard, Keirys Click, and Alaina Miller each contributed two hits to support the team’s offense.
Valparaiso took an early lead by scoring twice in the first inning, but Illinois responded quickly with a two-run double from Adisyn Caryl that tied the game. The Illini added three more runs in the second inning through hits by Jackie Yeager, Alaina Miller, Brooke Stang, and Ellie Haggard. Click scored another run for Illinois in the third after reaching base with a single.
Sabalaskey continued her strong pitching throughout six innings before Danika Frazier closed out the seventh frame. Postgame notes highlighted Miller’s perfect performance at bat during her final appearance at Eichelberger Field and recognized multi-hit games by Haggard and Click as well as key contributions from other players.
The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Softball program participates in intercollegiate competitions within NCAA Division I and is affiliated with the Big Ten Conference according to its official website. Home games are held in Urbana, Illinois as reported by university sources, where teams compete under their nickname “Fighting Illini” according to official information.
