The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has announced the addition of six new license types to its regulatory platform, CORE (Comprehensive Online Regulatory Environment). This move marks the completion of Phase 3.2 in the department’s efforts to modernize and integrate its licensing system.

With this update, more mental health professionals, including those in social work and counseling, will see their licenses transition onto the CORE platform. The department stated that all social work and counseling license types will gradually appear on the system, with new tools aimed at streamlining processes set to be introduced soon.

The IDFPR oversees licensing and regulation for a range of professions across Illinois, including healthcare and real estate. The agency was established through an executive order in 2004 that consolidated previous regulatory entities. It also regulates banks and has played a role in implementing state cannabis regulations following legislative changes in 2013 and 2019. More information about these responsibilities can be found on the department’s official history page.

According to its mission statement, the IDFPR aims to protect consumers while supporting career opportunities within financial and professional services. The agency also works to safeguard residents, maintain stability among financial institutions, ensure only qualified professionals are licensed, and support state commerce as outlined on its official website.
