The Illinois General Assembly passed legislation earlier this month to create a Blue Envelope Program designed to support Illinois residents living with autism during interactions with law enforcement, according to a May 29 announcement. Additionally, the Illinois Senate recently approved legislation that would allow for an alert on license plates for drivers and passengers who are autistic or neurodivergent.
State Representative Jeff Keicher said, “I was honored to be one of the founding members of the Neurodivergent Advocacy Caucus in the Illinois General Assembly, as well as a sponsor of HB4472, which recently passed both Houses unanimously to create the Blue Envelope Program in Illinois to support those living with autism.”
Keicher also said, “This community has often been overlooked and undervalued, and I appreciate the passion with which my colleagues and others are undertaking to change their lives.”
Keicher is a Republican who was elected to the Illinois State House in 2018 representing the state’s 70th House District. He replaced previous state representative Robert W. Pritchard, according to Rep. Keicher’s office.
Further information about these legislative efforts is available through Rep. Keicher’s official website.
