The Illinois Republican Party announced the SAFE-T Act has resulted in unsafe streets, neighborhoods, and schools across Illinois, criticizing Governor JB Pritzker’s handling of crime policy.
According to a post by the Illinois Republican Party on X, Governor Pritzker recently defended the SAFE-T Act during a press conference. The party described the act as “pro-criminal” and linked it to increased dangers in daily life across Illinois. This statement serves as a call to action against progressive policies that prioritize leniency over public safety.
McHenry County officials conducted a study revealing a 30% increase in overall crime and a 280% increase in failure-to-appear rates following the implementation of the SAFE-T Act. This local data highlights challenges in northern Illinois enforcement and court proceedings. The findings support concerns about the act’s impact on community safety in regional areas.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported that national violent crime decreased by approximately 9.3% from October 2024 to September 2025, with homicides falling 17.7%. However, Illinois urban areas like Chicago maintain higher rates, with Chicago’s homicide rate at 14.6 per 100,000 residents compared to the projected national low of around 4 per 100,000. This gap illustrates potential drawbacks of state-specific reforms amid broader declines.
The Illinois Republican Party commits to upholding the United States Constitution and core ideals including freedom, equality, opportunity, limited government, low taxes, strong national security, and the right to life. It reclaims its historical legacy to advance freedoms for all people regardless of race, color, or creed. The party positions itself as a defender of traditional values against progressive overreach.
