Lawmakers in the Illinois House of Representatives held a Memorial Day Ceremony during legislative session on May 26.

The ceremony featured the Reading of the Resolution of Honor, a Roll Call of Fallen Soldiers, and a performance of Amazing Grace by two lawmakers.

“Today’s ceremony is an essential reminder of the Illinois service members who made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Rep. Brad Stephens.

Stephens, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 20th House District, replacing previous state representative Michael P. McAuliffe, according to the office of Representative Stephens.

The annual observance provides an opportunity for lawmakers and attendees to honor those who have served and died in military service.
