The Illinois House held a special ceremony on May 26 in recognition of Memorial Day to honor the nation’s fallen heroes. The event included the presentation of colors, the laying of a wreath at the front of the House Chambers, and a reading of the Gettysburg Address. During the ceremony, members also honored Illinois servicemembers who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year by reading their names on the floor.

“May we all honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and their service to our great nation,” said organizers during the observance.

Weber, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2019 to represent the state’s 64th House District, replacing previous state representative Barbara Wheeler, according to Representative Weber’s office.

The annual Memorial Day event serves as an opportunity for lawmakers and citizens alike to reflect on and remember those who gave their lives while serving in uniform.
