The Illinois House held a special ceremony on May 26 in recognition of Memorial Day to honor the nation’s fallen heroes. The event included the presentation of colors, the laying of a wreath at the front of the House Chambers, and a reading of the Gettysburg Address. Lawmakers also honored Illinois servicemembers who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year by reading their names on the floor.

“May we all honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and their service to our great nation,” said participants during the ceremony.

Keicher, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2018 to represent the state’s 70th House District, replacing previous state representative Robert W. Pritchard, according to Ballotpedia.

The annual observance serves as an opportunity for lawmakers and citizens alike to remember and pay tribute to those who have given their lives in military service.
