Illinois House Republicans announced that Democrats’ new energy law, Senate Bill 25, will raise utility rates for Illinois residents already facing high power bills.

According to a post on X by the Illinois House Republicans, families and businesses in the state require affordable and reliable energy. The post suggests that the new energy law will exacerbate financial burdens on hardworking Illinoisans. This viewpoint aligns with Republican efforts to protect consumers from rising costs attributed to Democratic policies.

The Center Square reported significant increases in electricity rates last summer, with ComEd’s rates surging by 53% and Ameren Illinois’ rates climbing by 47%. These increases have resulted in record-high electric bills for residents of Illinois.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration has noted that retail electricity prices have been rising faster than inflation since 2022, with expectations of continued increases through 2026. These trends contribute to higher living costs for American households.

The Illinois House Republicans represent the Republican members of the Illinois House of Representatives. Their advocacy focuses on supporting families, farmers, workers, students, seniors, and veterans while promoting lower taxes, safer communities, and improved education.
