The Illinois House Republicans said May 26 that Gov. JB Pritzker proposed the highest state budget in Illinois history. The statement was issued as the General Assembly prepared to finalize appropriations before the spring session deadline.

According to the state House GOP, Pritzker’s spending proposal for the upcoming fiscal year represents a new high for state expenditures. The caucus raised concerns as lawmakers finalized budget details before the spring deadline.

Gov. JB Pritzker’s proposed general funds expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year total about $56 billion, reflecting an $878 million increase from the prior year’s revised estimate and including $589 million in proposed revenue adjustments, according to official budget documents.

The Illinois House Republicans are the minority caucus in the state legislature and say they advocate for fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, and policies supporting families, workers, and businesses throughout the state, according to their official website.
