Illinois ranks about average for its residents’ health and wellness practices, according to a new study by Enso Superfoods that measured considerations such as fruit and vegetable consumption per capita, the prevalence of obesity and physical activity.

The Prairie State came in 17th for fruit consumption, 37th for vegetable consumption, 24th for the prevalence of obesity and 20th for physical activity. Vermont topped the ranking of the healthiest states in the union, Enso reported.

The website used federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data for adults to determine how state residents were faring in their health and fitness. In measuring physical activity, the study looked at the percentage of adults in each state who engaged in moderately strenuous aerobic activities for 150 minutes per week – or 75 minutes a week for more vigorous exercises.

The analysis found that the Northeast likes vegetables the most, with Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts occupying the top three positions in that category.

And in Utah, 80% of residents take part in physical activities during their leisure hours, the highest percentage of any other state, according to the study.
