The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Softball team concluded its 2026 season with a 7-3 defeat against Indiana, according to a May 3 announcement. Taylor Porter hit her first collegiate home run during the game.
The outcome marked the end of a challenging season for Illinois, which finished with an overall record of 15-39 and a conference record of 3-20 in the Big Ten. The Fighting Illini are known for competing in intercollegiate softball at the NCAA Division I level as part of the Big Ten Conference, according to the official website.
During the game, Aly VanBrandt opened scoring for Indiana with a solo home run. Jose Bird contributed further with a three-run homer in the first inning. Relief pitcher Abby Sabalaskey pitched six innings and allowed three runs on five hits after entering early in relief. Ava Moore led off the third inning for Illinois with a triple and later scored on an RBI groundout by Alaina Miller.
Taylor Porter made her mark by hitting a two-run home run in her only at-bat, recording both her first career runs batted in and home run. “Taylor Porter was a perfect 1-for-1 at the plate, with a two-RBI home run, the first pair of RBI and first home run of her collegiate career,” said postgame notes released by Illinois athletics staff.
Other notable performances included Skylar Brennan finishing as team leader with 50 hits this season, Keirys Click being hit by pitch for the twelfth time this year—a mark that places her seventh on Illinois’ single-season list—and Ellie Haggard extending her reached-base streak to seven games.
