Illinois softball lost to Indiana, 7-3, in the second game of its final Big Ten series at Andy Mohr Field on May 2. Eileen Donahue hit her fifteenth home run of the season, tying her for seventh place in single-season program history.

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Softball program participates in the Big Ten Conference at the NCAA Division I level, according to the official website. The team focuses on intercollegiate softball competitions and holds its home games in Urbana, Illinois.

In Friday’s game, Adisyn Caryl opened with a base hit before Donahue homered to center field for an early lead. Despite Indiana narrowing the gap with hits from Ellie Goins and Brooke Mannon, Illinois held a slight advantage through three innings. Jackie Yeager added a sacrifice fly for Illinois before Indiana surged ahead with key hits from Aly VanBrandt and Alex Cooper.

Donahue finished 2-for-3 at bat with two runs batted in. Caryl contributed her forty-ninth hit of the season while Ellie Haggard recorded her seventh double this year and extended her reached-base streak to six games. Megan Nuechterlein started as pitcher for Illinois, throwing over three innings and conceding five runs on eight hits; Abby Sabalaskey pitched nearly three innings in relief.

The Fighting Illini serves as the nickname for University of Illinois athletics teams according to their official website. The women’s softball program is affiliated with both NCAA Division I and the Big Ten Conference.
