The Illinois State Bar Association announced on May 27 a new partnership with SimpleDocs to provide its members with discounted access to an AI platform designed for contract drafting, review, and negotiation.

Under the initiative, ISBA members will receive a complimentary 30-day trial of SimpleAI and preferred pricing that includes a 25 percent discount. The program is among the first of its kind between a state bar association and a Legal AI provider focused on transactional work for attorneys in various practice sizes.

SimpleAI is built specifically for legal workflows inside Microsoft Word. It offers features such as AI-powered drafting, review, redlining, playbook functionality, and access to contract precedent through Law Insider’s contract intelligence infrastructure. According to the announcement, SimpleAI has been adopted by thousands of legal professionals worldwide and is used by solo practitioners, general counsel offices, law firms, and organizations including Pierson Ferdinand LLP, Herbalife, Mitsubishi, and the University of Texas at Dallas.

Aaron Brooks, Chair of the ISBA AI Steering Committee, said: “One of the main goals of the ISBA AI Steering Committee has been to identify high-quality AI tools for inclusion in the ISBA member discounts program. We look for providers that add real value to attorney workflows while demonstrating strong transparency around confidentiality and security. SimpleDocs checks those boxes well, and we are proud to work with their team. Personally, I’ve been using the SimpleAI platform for several months, and it has become a regular part of how I work.”

Preston Clark, CEO and Co-Founder of SimpleDocs, said: “Most attorneys are not looking for abstract AI experimentation — they want practical tools that help them review, draft and negotiate contracts faster and more consistently inside the systems they already use… We’re excited to work with ISBA to help make this technology more accessible to attorneys across Illinois.”

As part of this rollout, ISBA members will also have access to educational programming including continuing legal education content focused on responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in legal practice. The Illinois Bar Association serves more than 28,000 members; it promotes diversity initiatives; provides continuing education; recognizes pro bono service; operates under elected leadership; utilizes its own administrative center; fosters professional networking opportunities; all according to, the official website.
