The Illinois State baseball team lost the first game of its series against Murray State, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at Johnny Reagan Field after a power outage delayed the contest, according to an April 18 announcement. The Redbirds now hold a record of 22-15 overall and are 6-7 in Missouri Valley Conference play for the season.
The game began Friday evening but was postponed due to a power outage at Johnny Reagan Field. Play resumed Saturday with Murray State leading. The Racers took an early lead following a walk and two stolen bases that set up an RBI single. In the fourth inning, Illinois State’s Brayden Bakes and Graham Mastros both singled and executed a double steal, but were left stranded as Murray State held onto its advantage.
Murray State added runs in the fifth and sixth innings through timely hitting and capitalized on errors by Illinois State. By the time play was halted in the eighth inning for postponement, Murray State led 6-0. When action resumed Saturday, Mastros hit his ninth home run of the season with a solo shot in the ninth inning for Illinois State’s only run.
