Illinois State Redbirds begin NCAA West First Round competition in Arkansas

Illinois State track and field began competition on May 27 at the NCAA West First Round held at the University of Arkansas. Zach Paul represented the Redbirds in the men’s 100-meter dash first round, finishing 42nd overall with a time of 10.48 seconds.

In field events, Jacob Klink placed 32nd in the men’s shot put with a mark of 17.64 meters, while Garrett Taylor finished 44th overall with a throw of 16.46 meters. The men’s pole vault event, featuring Redbird Seth Nelson, was postponed due to weather and rescheduled for Thursday at 2:40 p.m. Central Time.

Multiple Illinois State athletes are scheduled to continue their pursuit for qualification to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Thursday. Events include Seth Nelson competing in pole vault at 2:40 p.m., Macee Rivers participating in the women’s 100-meter hurdles first round at 6 p.m., and Becca Heitzig along with Pauline Schedler running in the women’s 1500-meter first round at 6:30 p.m.

The remainder of Thursday’s events will be streamed on ESPN+.
