Illinois State Redbirds secure five event wins at Badger Challenge on May 2

Illinois State track and field athletes achieved five event victories and three new top-10 program marks during the Badger Challenge in Madison, Wisconsin, according to a May 2 announcement.

Cole Stevens improved his eighth-place school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 61.27 meters. Becca Heitzig entered tenth all-time for Illinois State in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:32.87, while Nora Brady moved up to ninth place in school history for the women’s 5000-meter run at 16:49.18.

Brody Rigdon led a sweep of the men’s long jump podium by winning gold with a leap of 7.07 meters, followed by Rex Hallam and Victor Byaundaombe taking second and third place respectively. Jamarion Bardwell won the high jump at 2.06 meters, Aidan Wyzard finished first in the men’s 100-meter dash at 10.72 seconds and also earned bronze in the men’s 200-meter dash at 21.87 seconds.

Megan Clark secured victory in the women’s triple jump (11.61 meters), while Byaundaombe claimed gold in the men’s triple jump (14.65 meters). Other notable finishes included Jo Atkins placing third (17.45 meters) and Jacob Klink fifth (17.17 meters) in men’s shot put; Abby Milott finishing third in women’s long jump (5.63 meters); Ava Lawless taking second place with a wind-aided mark of 11.53 meters in women’s triple jump; Mattison Plummer runner-up (10:13.21) and Astrid Van Breedam fifth (10:37.55) in women’s steeplechase; Julian Baker finishing fourth overall in men’s1500 meter run with a time of3:44 .03.
