Illinois State Redbirds secure Summit League win over Omaha, 5-2

Illinois State Redbirds defeated Omaha by a score of 5-2 in a Summit League men’s tennis match on Apr. 15 at the Evergreen Racquet Club. The victory puts Illinois State in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings with just two matches left in the regular season.

The result is important for tournament seeding as the team approaches the Summit League Championship. The Redbirds won the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 positions, and then took four out of six singles matches to clinch the win.

In doubles play, Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett earned a 6-2 win at No. 2, while Jett Leong and Finn Logue secured a 6-4 victory at No. 3 to give Illinois State an early advantage. In singles competition, Tomas Valencia won his match at No.1 with scores of 6-2, 6-3; Christian Capacci added another point with a straight sets win at No.3; Leong won his match at No.5; and Scarlett finished off with a three-set victory at No.6.
