Illinois State Representative Brad Fritts attended the annual Firefighter Memorial in Springfield on May 12. Fritts said the event served as a somber reminder of the dangers firefighters face every day and honored those who have lost their lives in service.
The memorial is an opportunity for community members and officials to recognize the risks that firefighters take to protect others. “Thank you to the brave men and women who risk their lives to keep our communities safe. We will never forget your bravery and sacrifice!” Fritts said.
Fritts, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 74th House District, replacing previous state representative Dan Swanson, according to Ballotpedia.
The annual event brings together families, colleagues, and supporters of firefighters from across Illinois. Attendees reflect on both recent losses and ongoing efforts by fire departments statewide.
Looking ahead, officials say such memorials play an important role in ensuring that sacrifices made by first responders are remembered each year.
