Illinois State Representative Jason Bunting urged drivers on April 21 to use extra caution in construction zones as National Work Zone Awareness Week begins. The call comes as construction season starts and more roadwork is underway across the state.

Bunting said that safety is especially important for both workers and drivers during this period. He asked motorists to “use extra caution, stay focused on the road, and SLOW DOWN in work zones so everyone—workers and drivers alike—can make it home safely at the end of the day.” He added, “Remember: Safe actions save lives.”

The reminder follows Bunting’s drive to Springfield for a legislative session, where he passed through several construction areas. His comments highlight concerns about driver attentiveness and speed in work zones.

Bunting was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 106th House District in 2023, replacing former state representative Thomas Bennett according to public records.

National Work Zone Awareness Week aims to reduce accidents by encouraging safe driving habits around active roadwork sites. With increased construction activity expected throughout the season, officials are stressing vigilance behind the wheel.
