Illinois State Representative Mike Coffey expressed appreciation for law enforcement officers on May 11, recognizing their service during National Police Week. Coffey said the week is dedicated to the men and women who serve as police officers and protect communities.
The observance of National Police Week highlights the risks and sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel. “We are proud to support our brave law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to keep our neighborhoods safe,” Coffey said.
Coffey encouraged residents to thank police officers in Illinois for their work, stating, “THANK YOU, to all the police officers across Illinois!” He suggested several ways people can show support for local law enforcement, including dropping off gifts at police stations or state agencies, writing letters of appreciation, participating in volunteer programs or outreach events that require community support, displaying blue lights outside homes, flying flags supporting law enforcement, and sharing positive stories about experiences with police on social media.
Coffey was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 95th House District in 2023 after replacing previous state representative Tim Butler, according to Ballotpedia.
National Police Week serves as an opportunity for community members to recognize and thank those serving in law enforcement roles.
