Illinois State Representative Daniel Swanson reported on Apr. 20 that the previous week was busy in Springfield as lawmakers faced a third reading deadline, requiring all bills to pass through the House before moving to the Senate.
The update matters because it highlights legislative activity and community engagement at the Capitol, as well as ongoing efforts by various organizations to connect with state representatives.
Swanson said he met with leaders from Illinois State University, Freedom House, McDonough Power Company, Illinois Realtors, Amtrak, Junior League of Chicago’s Advocacy Council, Healthcare Association, Two Rivers YMCA, State Ambulance Association, IGOLD (Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day), Arts Alliance, Illinois Lyme Association, Carl Sandburg College students and President Thomas along with students from Black Hawk College and University of Illinois representatives and Western Illinois University students and leadership. “It was a great week visiting with so many people,” Swanson said.
Swanson is a Republican who was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 71st House District after replacing former representative Donald L. Moffitt according to Ballotpedia.
The series of meetings underscores how state legislators interact directly with diverse organizations during critical periods in the legislative calendar.
