Illinois State swim and dive program honors athletes at annual award banquet

The Illinois State swim and dive program hosted its annual award banquet on Apr. 21 to recognize the achievements of its athletes during the 2025-26 season.

The event celebrated both individual accomplishments and team spirit, highlighting key contributors in several categories. The Most Valuable Swimmer/Diver Award was given to Emma Thompson for diving and Mia Snow for swimming. The program said, “Presented to the athlete who demonstrated the highest level of performance and leadership throughout the season. This athlete consistently rose to the occasion in competition, elevated those around them, and embodied what it meant to be a teammate. Their contributions both in and out of the water were invaluable to the success of the program.”

Other awards included Most Improved, which went to Bayley Fowler (diver) and Alexandra Davis (swimmer), recognizing their dedication throughout the season. For newcomers, Ava Ostendorf received Newcomer of the Year for making an immediate impact on arrival: “Presented to the first-year athlete who made an immediate impact on this program, whether it was in competition, in the locker room, or at practice, this athlete hit the ground running and showed from day one that they belonged. Their arrival made this team better, and the best is still ahead of them.” The Legacy Award honored Ella Turken as an outgoing senior who has left a lasting mark on Redbird Swim & Dive: “Over the course of their career, this athlete gave everything to this team…and set an example for every athlete who came after them.” Delaney Boulden received recognition with the Redbird Spirit Award for representing positivity within Redbird Swim & Dive.
