Daktronics announced on Apr. 16 that it will partner with Illinois State University to design, manufacture, and install a new LED video display and audio system at Jay & Lori Bergman Field in Hancock Stadium ahead of the 2026 football season.
The project aims to enhance the game-day experience for fans, student-athletes, and coaches by delivering advanced audiovisual technology. The improvements are expected to support Illinois State Redbirds’ continued competitiveness and recruitment efforts, according to the official website.
The new end zone video display will measure about 31.5 feet high by 64.5 feet wide, totaling 2,025 square feet. It features a 10-millimeter pixel spacing for clear visuals and is designed to withstand outdoor elements. The display can show one large image or be divided into multiple zones for live video, instant replay, graphics, statistics, or sponsorship messages.
Paul Kabbes, ISU Deputy Director of Athletics for External Operations said: “Coming off a national title game appearance just months ago, we know Redbird Football is positioned for success in the future. We want to ensure the game-day experience is at the highest level possible for our fans, and this upgrade, thanks to Daktronics, will assist in our efforts. Jay & Lori Bergman Field will continue getting better and better for our student-athletes, coaches and dedicated fans.” Ryan Kuzman of Daktronics added: “Bringing audiovisual upgrades like this is something we take great pride in at Daktronics…it will be exciting to see this project make a positive impact for years to come.”
A Sportsound 2050 audio system will also be installed above the video board with integration into the scoring system. This addition promises clear speech reproduction as well as powerful sound throughout Hancock Stadium.
Illinois State Redbirds utilizes several resources such as the OSF HealthCare Athletics Training Center for student-athlete preparation according to their official website. The athletics program offers news updates including schedules and rosters while competing in NCAA Division I events across various regions according to their official website.
