Illinois to face Nebraska in first round of Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Women’s Tennis team will begin postseason play on April 23 as the No. 8 seed in the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament, according to an announcement made April 19. The tournament will take place at Ohio State’s Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The event is significant for Illinois as the team seeks its first Big Ten title and continues a consistent record of strong conference performances. Only the top twelve teams qualify for this tournament format, highlighting the achievement for Illinois.

Illinois finished with a 7-6 record in league play and an overall mark of 12-12 this season. The Illini will open against No. 9 seed Nebraska at 8 a.m. Central Time on Thursday morning. Nebraska is currently ranked No. 42 nationally by ITA and holds a similar conference record of 7-6 with an overall tally of 15-8. Earlier this season, Illinois defeated Nebraska with a score of 4-0 during their regular-season meeting in Lincoln.

Illinois has recorded at least seven Big Ten victories each year since COVID-19 ended the team’s campaign in spring 2020, and under head coach Evan Clark, they have reached that milestone across all ten completed seasons.
