The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will play two midweek games against Wheaton College and Illinois College, according to an April 20 announcement. The Titans are set to host Wheaton on Tuesday at Horenberger Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m., before traveling to Jacksonville for a Wednesday afternoon matchup against Illinois College.
These games come as the Titans approach the end of their regular season. With a current record of 12-18 overall and 7-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, Illinois Wesleyan is looking to build on a recent strong performance that saw them win four out of five games last week.
Junior Jack Novak had a standout week, collecting 13 hits in 22 at-bats and maintaining a .591 average. Novak leads the conference with a .500 batting average during league play and is currently riding a 13-game hitting streak. Sophomore Matt Hudik leads the team with a .364 batting average and has scored the most runs for his team this season. Classmate AJ Weller tops the roster in total hits at 46, while senior Jack Flagg has hit five home runs so far this year.
On the pitching side, freshman Brayden Elliott has emerged as an effective reliever, recording three saves over seven appearances late in games. Fellow freshman Anthony Fry has also contributed from the bullpen with one win and an earned run average of 4.50.
Wheaton enters Tuesday’s contest with a record of 14-17 overall (7-8 CCIW) after taking two out of three from Carthage College last weekend. Historically, Illinois Wesleyan holds an advantage over Wheaton in their series matchups, having won seven straight meetings since 2003. Against Illinois College, IWU has dropped only three contests out of seventeen played between the teams.
