The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s golf team took the lead on May 13 following the second day of play at the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Titans posted a nine-under-par round of 279 at El Campeon Golf Course, putting them three strokes ahead with two rounds remaining. Play was suspended due to darkness for several teams that had not completed their rounds.
This development is significant as it marks a strong performance by Illinois Wesleyan in a national collegiate competition. The team achieved its lowest round ever in program history during a national championship event.
All five players contributed closely matched scores, with senior Aidan Healy and sophomore Pablo Castro each recording three-under-par rounds of 69. Seniors Juney Bai and Michael Spitzer also finished under par, while freshman Ryan Andrews turned in an even-par score. Healy leads the team with a two-under total after 36 holes, followed by Castro at one-under and both Bai and Andrews at even par.
The Titans compete in NCAA Division III athletics and are affiliated with Illinois Wesleyan University as well as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the official website. The program operates from Bloomington, Illinois, utilizes Ironwood Golf Course as its dedicated facility, and participates in intercollegiate athletics within its conference.
Round two will be completed tomorrow morning before round three begins immediately afterward. Tee times and pairings are available through tournament organizers.
