The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s golf team, ranked ninth nationally, will compete for its 14th consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship from April 29 to May 1. The tournament is set to take place at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford.
This event is significant as the Titans aim to extend their streak of conference titles and maintain their strong presence in NCAA Division III athletics, according to the official website. Senior Michael Spitzer returns as the reigning CCIW medalist after winning last year’s individual title with a score of 208 at Weaver Ridge Golf Course. Spitzer currently holds second place on the program’s career scoring average list with a mark of 72.65.
Sophomore Pablo Castro has led the team throughout the season, achieving four top-three finishes and earning his first career win at the IWU Invite earlier this month. Castro has also received three CCIW Golfer of the Week awards this season and holds a stroke average of 72.0. In national rankings, Castro stands at No. 14 among Division III golfers, while Spitzer is ranked No. 44.
Both Castro and freshman Ryan Andrews are set to make their debuts at the CCIW Championship this year. Seniors Juney Bai and Aidan Healy join Spitzer as experienced members with multiple All-CCIW distinctions between them. According to the most recent Pre-Championship Coaches’ Poll, Illinois Wesleyan topped the rankings with all eight first-place votes.
Illinois Wesleyan Titans Men’s Golf competes in NCAA Division III athletics within intercollegiate sports programs affiliated with Illinois Wesleyan University and participates in events organized by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin according to the official website. The team operates from Bloomington, Illinois, and utilizes Ironwood Golf Course as its dedicated facility according to university sources.
Live scoring for this week’s championship will be available online as Andrews tees off Wednesday afternoon alongside competitors from Millikin University and Wheaton College.
