Illinois Wesleyan men’s golf prepares for final regular season event at Butts Classic

The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s golf team announced on Apr. 19 that it will compete in its final regular season tournament, the Butts Classic, hosted by Millikin University in Decatur. The event will take place April 20-21 at the Country Club of Decatur and feature a total of 54 holes over two days.

This tournament is significant as it marks the last opportunity for the No. 9 ranked Titans to prepare before postseason play begins. The team will field two squads against a competitive lineup including Millikin, North Central, Lake Forest, Heartland, UW-Stevens Point, Hope, Wheaton, Spalding, Illinois College, Elmhurst, and Carthage.

Senior Michael Spitzer recently won his third career tournament title at the Cochran Collegiate in Cordova with an even-par score of 216. Sophomore Pablo Castro finished second with a two-over score of 218. Their performances helped lead Illinois Wesleyan to its third team championship this season.

The ‘A’ squad for the Titans consists of Spitzer and Castro along with seniors Aidan Healy and Juney Bai and freshman Ryan Andrews. The ‘B’ squad includes senior Myles Lahart; sophomore Lane Ludwig; freshmen Kasey May, Kevin Schuh; and Alex Rollman.

Illinois Wesleyan Titans Men’s Golf participates in NCAA Division III athletics according to the official website. The program is affiliated with Illinois Wesleyan University and competes within the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as part of intercollegiate sports programs according to official information. The team operates from Bloomington and utilizes Ironwood Golf Course as a dedicated facility according to school sources.
