The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s golf team was ranked No. 9 in the most recent Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll, released by the organization on April 17. The Titans earned 286 points and dropped one spot from their previous ranking, despite winning two consecutive team titles.
This ranking is significant for Illinois Wesleyan, which competes in NCAA Division III athletics as part of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the official website. The team participates in intercollegiate athletics at this level within its conference and operates from Bloomington, Illinois.
Since the last national poll was published on March 27, Illinois Wesleyan has recorded a perfect record of 51-0 against other teams. The Titans claimed victories at both the IWU Invite held April 3-4 and the Cochran Classic played April 13-14. Sophomore Pablo Castro won individual honors at the IWU Invite with a two-day total score of three-under-par (140) and is currently ranked among the top ten players nationally in Division III player rankings.
At the Cochran Collegiate tournament, senior Michael Spitzer took medalist honors with an even-par score of 216 over three rounds. Spitzer holds a No. 30 ranking nationally according to Clippd.
Huntingdon College leads this week’s poll with all first-place votes and a total of 400 points. Carnegie Mellon moved into second place followed by Methodist, Washington and Lee, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps rounding out the top five teams.
Illinois Wesleyan utilizes Ironwood Golf Course as its dedicated facility for practice and competition according to its official website. The Titans will return to action at the Butts Classic hosted by Millikin University at Country Club of Decatur on April 20-21.
