The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s golf team won its 27th College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship on May 1, securing a three-day total score of 867 and finishing 42 strokes ahead at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford. This marks the program’s 14th consecutive league title.
The victory is significant as it gives Illinois Wesleyan an automatic spot in the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship. The Titans compete in NCAA Division III athletics, according to the official website. The team is affiliated with Illinois Wesleyan University and participates in intercollegiate athletics within the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, as reported by the official website.
Sophomore Pablo Castro led from start to finish, becoming the fifth straight Titan to earn medalist honors with a five-under-par total of 211. “Castro joins Jimmy Morton (2022), Quinn Clifford (2023), Bobby Beaubien (2024), and Michael Spitzer (2025) as the latest Titan CCIW medalists,” according to a statement from the university. Freshman Ryan Andrews finished second with a score of 216, while senior Michael Spitzer took third place at 220.
Four Titans earned First Team All-CCIW honors: Castro, Andrews, Aidan Healy, and Spitzer. Senior Juney Bai tied for eleventh place for Second Team All-CCIW status. For his academic achievements, Castro received the CCIW’s Elite 26 Award—the fourth consecutive year a Titan has earned this honor—and became only the second player in conference history to win both this award and individual champion in one season.
Illinois Wesleyan also swept specialty awards: Castro was named Golfer of the Year; Andrews received Newcomer of the Year; head coach Jim Ott and Karl Keller were awarded Coach Staff of the Year for their twelfth time since 2010. The team utilizes Ironwood Golf Course as its dedicated facility according to information from their official website.
With this win, Illinois Wesleyan will compete at Mission Inn Resort + Spa in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida from May 12-15 for another shot at national success after last year’s runner-up finish. The program operates out of Bloomington, Illinois and belongs to intercollegiate sports programs according to its official site.
