Illinois Wesleyan men’s lacrosse shuts out Augustana in 26-0 win

The Illinois Wesleyan University men’s lacrosse team defeated Augustana College with a score of 26-0 on April 22 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game at the PepsiCo Recreation Center. The Titans improved their season record to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Vikings dropped to 3-11 and remain winless in league competition.

This result marks the first shutout for Illinois Wesleyan since April 26, 2015. The Titans used four different goalies during the game, each playing one quarter. Jaymeson Zackery and Sam Scott made two saves each, while A.J. Ellis and Henry Cotter contributed one save apiece. Defensively, Lucas Patterson, Wyatt Hart, and Ethan Cavanaugh each caused two turnovers as Jake Sline led all players with ten ground balls.

Twelve Titans scored goals during the match. Brody Jones recorded a career-high five goals, Timothy McHugh led with nine points from four goals and five assists, Jake Kahoun had three goals and two assists, while Noah Dretzka added four goals. Michael Rocco went eight-for-ten on faceoffs; Matt Arnold was eight-for-nine; Sline won all six of his attempts as Illinois Wesleyan finished with a strong performance at faceoff wins.

Illinois Wesleyan competes at the NCAA Division III level according to the official website. The team is based in Bloomington, Illinois according to the official website and plays its home games at Tucci Stadium according to the official website. The program is also a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin according to the official website.

Looking ahead, Illinois Wesleyan will close out its regular season on Saturday against Elmhurst University at Langhorst Field.
