Illinois Wesleyan University head men’s tennis coach Sam Totten announced the team’s annual awards on May 5, recognizing players for their achievements during the season.
The awards highlight individual and team accomplishments for the Illinois Wesleyan Titans Men’s Tennis program, which competes in NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics and is a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the official website.
Senior Ben Vigneri was named most valuable player after earning Second Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honors. He also received two CCIW Player of the Week awards during his final campaign. Vigneri finished with an 11-7 record at No. 1 singles and a 9-9 mark in doubles alongside seniors Ian Turnbull and Griffin Hammond. Freshman Will Ehrlich received newcomer of the year after posting a 10-12 singles record across several positions, along with an 11-11 mark in doubles play. Hammond was recognized as most improved following a season where he recorded a 9-11 singles record and reached the consolation finals in doubles at the ITA Regional with Turnbull.
Junior Chase Tomecki earned the team’s respect award. The Titans graduated five student-athletes this year, while four are expected to return next fall.
Letterwinners included first-year students Jesus Avalos, Will Ehrlich, Truman Raher; third-year students Thad Dillow and Chase Tomecki; and fourth-year students Griffin Hammond, Sebastian Rasquin, Ian Turnbull, and Ben Vigneri.
The Illinois Wesleyan Titans Men’s Tennis holds home matches at Evergreen Racquet Club and Beadles-Morse Courts on campus, according to the official website. The program features student-athletes from freshman through senior years as part of its ongoing participation in college athletics.
