The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team swept the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) weekly awards on April 20, with seniors Casey Wissmiller and Gianna Certa earning top honors following a four-win week.
These recognitions highlight the strong performance of the Titans as they continue their season in NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics, according to the official website. The program operates from Bloomington, Illinois and holds membership in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Wissmiller was named CCIW Hitter of the Week for her efforts at the plate. “Wissmiller garnered a CCIW weekly award for the second time in her career and the first since pulling it in May 8, 2023 during her freshman campaign,” according to an announcement by league officials. She recorded six hits in ten at bats with a .600 batting average, scored six runs, drove in eight runs, hit two doubles and two home runs, stole two bases, walked once, and did not strike out during the week.
Certa earned her seventh career CCIW Pitcher of the Week honor after going 2-0 with an earned run average of 0.00 over eleven innings pitched. “Certa hauls in the seventh CCIW Pitcher of the Week honor of her storied career, including the second this season,” said league officials. She held opponents to a .118 batting average across two starts—one against Millikin where she took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before finishing with a complete game shutout—and another against Elmhurst where she struck out eight batters over four innings.
The Titans play their home games at Inspiration Field in Bloomington as part of their NCAA Division III schedule and will return to action April 25-26 with games against Carroll University and Carthage College according to information from their official website. The team participates as part of intercollegiate athletics within both NCAA Division III competition and membership in their conference.
This sweep marks continued success for Illinois Wesleyan’s softball program as it maintains momentum through conference play.
